People may not know that I love to host dinner parties. I don’t do it very often, because it stresses me out, but I love it. I love the details. The setting of the dining room table. Ironing the linens. Finding the perfect dinner music. Lighting the candles. Developing the menu. I am not sure where I got the love for having the perfect parties. My mom was not someone that took time to pay attention to the details. She did not have time with four kids keeping her busy. But, we always had a full house. We always had people over. They would have to help themselves to the food that was usually on the counter and to make sure they threw away their paper plate when they were done. They would have to ignore the dust on the furniture and watch whatever show was on TV. But, it did not matter. The important part was the fun we shared with our guests. I have very fond memories of neighbor kids coming over for dinner and family gatherings. I think that is why I enjoy having people to my house. The memories that we are making will be enjoyed for years. Part of me wishes I would have inherited two things from my mom–her cooking and her carefree attitude. I am not the best cook, but I try. I wish I would not worry about the smallest of details. For example, this morning I was up sweeping underneath the furniture. Who cares? But I had to do it.
I am so looking forward to having the family for dinner tonight, but I hope I can enjoy the time together making memories and not worry about the fuzzy that I might see on the floor.
Have a Merry Christmas!
